My Friend Will is releasing a good read on his personal journey to Jesus next week. I’ll share the link so be on the lookout. Here’s what he said, “I'd been staring at the consequences of my own decisions like a sentence I was serving. Hebrews let me see them as training I was in. The discipline wasn't punishment. It was a Father conforming a son. This book is that road. It's not written from the finish line, and I haven't arrived. The stories in it are mine, but they were never the point. They're bridges.” Will Knect - More The Man

📚Book Project Update. Release Date: Late December. Launch Team: Forming Soon. Please pray this book changes lives by changing how believers read God’s word.

Enjoy today’s read!

Before jumping in, you’ll get more out of this post if you read 1 Thessalonians 1:6-10 first.

I asked a question the other day in a class I’m teaching. It made everyone laugh and shake their head but then grow kind of quiet.

“If some lost soul were to search on the internet or visit all the churches in their town, how would they know what is true and which church is closest to Scripture?

It’s a bit confusing out there, isn’t it?

Yet a little band of believers in a first-century port city “turned their world upside down” (Acts 17:1-7). And they did it with no New Testament or internet and only three weeks of instruction.

Prominent city.

 Only one church.

Plenty of opposition.

A belief in the simplicity of the gospel and what little Bible they knew.

Turns the world around them upside down.

We could learn a few lessons from that!

It reminds me of when I finally believed the gospel and acted upon that belief. It turned my world upside down and those around me took notice.

Those believers in Thessalonica, they were careful to pick the right person to follow (v. 6).

They were also clear-headed that their choice for Christ came with consequences.

Authentic faith in Christ invites resistance that can also produce affliction. And joy?

I love that Paul was honest about the challenges of faith in Christ. Their authenticity built a local community that others who came to Christ could count on.

And they didn’t complicate it.

What they knew was enough to get the mission accomplished and it brought them joy in seeing the gospel go to work around them.

Let that sit a minute.

Knowing that makes me want to be around believers willing to suffer the friction and endure the affliction to see others saved.

Turning from the old way of life to a new way of life in Christ with confidence and conviction was causing others to turn as well (v. 7-10).

I think I understand. And when you lead someone to a genuine life-giving relationship with Christ, you will too (Luke 15:10).

God give us good churches!

With all the choices we have today, that’s not so easy which makes it all the more important to choose wisely.

Your town might not have a good church. If it does, you’re blessed.

But could I encourage you to not only band together with other believers in compelling community locally but do so in a manner that makes the gospel visible to others.

You’ll find little in this world that will bring you more joy than seeing your people turn from idols to the living and true God and know that they are saved from the wrath to come (v. 9-10).

I’d love to hear your thoughts. Respond to this email and let me know how you’re doing out there.
