📚Book Project Update. Release Date: Late December. Launch Team: Forming Soon. Please pray this book changes lives by changing how believers read God’s word.
Enjoy today’s read!
I’ve adapted this excerpt from my soon to be released book that will help believers familiar with Scripture get far more out of it while building a meaningful reading routine.
I’ll be sharing from the book on Saturdays now through the book’s release in late December. This is from a chapter that really resonated with my beta readers.
I’d love to hear your thoughts:
Let's Visit the Book Everyone Loves - Leviticus.
When I mention Leviticus, you can almost hear the sighs. Many don't like that book because they don't understand it.
But it's also unpopular because people don't know how to take it or apply it. It seems irrelevant, complicated and easy to ignore.
Yet taking what you've been learning in the past few chapters and what Paul just said, Leviticus can become an amazing book full of life and benefit to you.
I’m going to prove it.
God gave it for a purpose and said all Scripture is profitable. But for what? For whom?
Because you now know how to determine context first, you know Leviticus is not your mail. But you won't want to skip it because God said there's value in it for you.
Let’s do a quick review and then break it down some more.
God gave Leviticus and the rest of the books of the law to the Jewish people whom God rescued from bondage in Egypt.
They had forgotten how to properly relate to and approach God and were full of the customs of Egypt.
So, He gave them the Mosaic law. Leviticus explained to the Jewish people under the law what was right, wrong, how to get right and how to keep it right (2 Tim. 3:16).
But it’s important that you know that God required a lot from them that He does not require of you and me.
Yet one thing we all must have is atonement for our sin.
In the Old Testament God required the substitutionary sacrifice of animals. They had to do that - it was for them.
Yet we too need atonement for our sin. Then why don't we sacrifice animals like they had to? Because God later sent His Son.
Rather than a theology lesson, my intent is to make an important point that often confuses or misleads Christians.
Which is, how you apply the Scripture really matters.
Someone might say, "it's in the Bible, why aren't you doing it? It’s how they did it, why don’t you do it too?”
Some feel that if it’s in the Bible they to need find a way to apply it directly to their life.
But then choose the wrong way.
Part of God’s command to “rightly divide the word of truth” involves understanding the difference between historical, doctrinal and practical application.
When you read the book of Galatians and elsewhere, you’ll discover that God gave the law in the Old Testament to protect and guide the Jewish people.
The law was a "schoolmaster" or "tutor", a guardian and manager to regulate God’s people until He would send His Son.
Jesus is the "Lamb of God which taketh away the sin of the world". Yet before He would come, atonement was still required. Leviticus gave those under the law their instruction how to do so…
Here’s how to make the book of Leviticus or any passage of Scripture personal and practical without misapplying it…
“I wish I had this years ago” is the one thing I hear repeatedly from the beta readers for my upcoming book and those who have taken the live online companion cohort.
